How to trust your body: Fascia and Pranayama
I believe the relationship we have with our body is the relationship we have with our world. Our relationship to food, family, love, and our-selves begins with our body. Do we try to control the things around us or build understanding and trust?
Trust is mutual, the key is not necessarily learning how to trust your body, or if the body should trust you. It is how do we build a trusting relationship with our body. Fascia can restrict our movements and hold deep emotional pain but can also support movements and help release emotions.
This is a focused workshop for beginners and intermediates looking at fascia and pranayama. My intention is to share and practice tools for understanding the relationship between fascia and pranayama.
Fascia (connective tissue) is the tissue that can restrict or open our movement and breath. To open the lines of fascia we will look at common yin poses, pralaya and some more dynamic movements specific for fascia. The key with fascia is to take our time and not push too hard.
It can take time before we really understand how fascia and pranayama work together but it is an incredibly strong combination that can awaken the body holistically.
After opening fascia we can awaken prana (life force) through different techniques like cannon breath and Kapalbhati (breath of fire). Opening the lines throughout our body can take us into deep states of meditation, awareness and emotional release.
Please feel welcome even if you have no experience with Yoga. Be mindful with injuries as some movements are physically challenging, others are much softer and relaxing.
