How to trust your body: Shifting weight
A guided practice looking at shifting weight into our arms and hands. A beginner to intermediate’s look at progressions for floating and arm balances.
For those who feel uncomfortable with hand placement, shifting weight, or lightening the feet please feel welcome. Working with our hands starts in very safe poses such as child’s pose, down dog and forward folds. There is no need to lift the feet off the ground to begin working on arm balances.
To build a healthy relationship with our hands it’s important to build a foundation. Instead of fighting for crow everyday, allow the pose(s) to come to you (#Dorinda). The intention is to share progressions that help build confidence, understanding, and purpose to prepare your body and mind for taking flight.
The practice is mostly based on pralaya and vinyasa methods of progressions. We will switch between using straps, blocks, socks, partners, and a wall if necessary.
What to expect:
1. A warming flow to connect to our body
2. Breathing and Bandhas for floating
3. Building strength, flexion, and alignment
4. Simple hand balances with progressions to hand standing
5. Massage / release techniques for arms
Trust is mutual. The key is not necessarily learning how to trust your body, or if the body should trust you. It is building a trusting relationship with our body. Starting with our hands.
